Renfrewshire – Small but busy county in Scotland
Renfrewshire is located in the west central Lowlands, and whilst it is not the largest county inScotland, it is one of the busiest. This is because of the presence of Glasgow International Airport (Scotland’s second busiest) at Abbotsinch and the many commuter towns and villages that use the City for work.
Although Renfrewshire has interests of its own, the transport passing through the county makes it of special importance to many others. Unfortunately, the volume of traffic is causing congestion and a number of attempts have been made to ease this problem.
The Erskine Bridge was opened in 1971, which spans the River Clyde and connects withWest Dunbartonshire. Around 35,000 vehicles use the bridge everyday, but it was hoped that a lifting of tolls would increase this number and help to divert traffic away from the busiest areas.
