Fife, Scotland- The Bridge to Beauty
The natural peninsula of Fife has more to boast about than being known as the home of golf. Most traffic into and out of the peninsula, often referred to as the Kingdom of Fife, must travel along one of three well-known bridges that lie to the south, west and northeast. The boundaries of Fife have not changed much throughout the years as it continues to sit between the Firth of Tay to the north, the Firth of Forth to the south and the North Sea to the east. Currently the third largest local authority area by population, most of the residents tend to live within the parameters of the three principal towns. With a natural beauty that stretches from one end of the shoreline to the other and a rich history found throughout the land, Fife has been a favoured destination of holiday travellers for decades.
Reasons to Visit Fife
Those who visit and reside in Fife have learned that being active is the best way to take advantage of all that the land has to offer. With a newer cycleway that spans the length and breadth of the kingdom, anyone is able to see the beauty that lies in the countryside. The miles of expansive shoreline give the peninsula plenty of opportunity to take advantage of the many water sports that Fife has to offer. Plenty of fishing and horseback riding can be found for those that prefer the milder side of activity. There are also plenty of historic landmarks such as the Dairsie Castle and Balmerino Abbey to visit and enjoy. Of course, with St Andrews being the home of golf there is no shortage of places to play the game.
Entertainment & Dining in Fife
There is never a lack of entertainment in Fife with the many bars, theatres, art galleries and other venues available. Spend some time learning of life under the water at the St Andrews aquarium. When it is time to dine you can view the entire town of St Andrews from the glass front of the Castle Clubhouse or treat the family to home baked goodness at the Eden Clubhouse. Regardless of where you dine, you will be taking in local produce as the restaurants and pubs work to promote the foods of the area.
Accommodation in Fife
Bed & breakfasts and lodges make up the majority of accommodations throughout Fife. The Glenardran guest house allows you the comforts of modern times with the quaint accommodations afforded to most B&Bs. If waterfront accommodations are more your style, then a lodge like the Auchenheglish is likely to appeal to you more. The area also allows for caravan camping nestled in the trees at locations such as Grangemuir Woodland Park.
