Tyrone, Northern Island- Where the Wildlife Roam

People are not the only inhabitants of County Tyrone. In fact, most of the population of the county lives in three major towns. Cookstown, Omagh and Dungannon hold the majority of residents while much of the remainder of Tyrone is uninhabited by man. That does not mean it goes unused. There is an abundance of wildlife in the county that sits on the south-west shore of Lough Neagh. The eastern portion of the county is flatland and shoreline while the west boasts the Sperrin Mountains. This allows plenty of land for the many forms of wildlife that can be found roaming through the woods and in the water. While its current inhabitants are well known, those from the past have been found through the historical monuments and prehistoric remains that were discovered.

Reasons to Visit Tyrone

The first place to go and see the wildlife close up is the Annaginny Park Farm. Here you will experience such animals as geese, wallaby, emu and deer. You can spend the taking walks or going for a picnic. The park even has trout fishing, camping and a nature preserve available. Of course you can begin your trek into the past by visiting the Beaghmore Stone Circles. These circles have stood through time since the Bronze Age and continue to stand firm. Some other interesting sites that have historical meaning are the Ardboe Old Cross and St Patrick’s Chair and Well. With the ability to go fishing, horse riding, canoeing, shopping and to museums there will not be a time when you lack something to keep busy. And as in most cases in Ireland, there are plenty of places to play golf.

Entertainment and Dining in Tyrone

Get out and experience live music when you hit the Sugar Club at the Royal Hotel for their weekend discos. There are plenty of clubs, pubs and bars that offer life music for you to enjoy. When you just want a bite to eat then you might choose a place like Deli on the Green. Half bistro, half deli this combination makes a great place to grab something when you do not want fine dining. If you do want something a little more then you can try the Yankee Star Grill House. Patterned after an American steakhouse, this restaurant offers typical American cuisine made with local produce.

Stay in a 17th century country house when you make reservations at the Corrick House Hotel. There are many other options ranging from the bed and breakfast to the self-catering cottage.
