Meath, Ireland- The Royal County
Meath was the ancient seat of the High Kings of Tara which earned it the nickname of the Royal County. Even though those days are in the past the name has stuck and the history is still alive and well throughout the county. New Grange, Knowth and Dowth house some of the top archaeological sites in the country. Passage graves from the Neolithic period have become one of the top tourist attractions in the county. The history of the area is rich and full and there are remains throughout the county that attest to that history. One of the oldest religious settlements in Ireland was located in the town of Trim and there is still a castle standing in the area that is attributed to the period. However, history is not all that Meath has to brag about. With six miles of coastline, several top golf clubs and the River Boyne there are plenty of activities outside of history to keep the locals and visitors happy.
