My Train Ticket sells cheap train tickets for all UK train companies to all National Rail destinations and London Underground stations and over 280 Plusbus locations. If you book in advance you can save as much as 80% compared with buying a ticket on the day of travel.
Types of Train Tickets
The types of ticket depend on availability and how flexible you can be on your travelling time.
Advance - these are single(one-way) tickets but have limited availability, so they often sell out fast. Advance tickets are made available by the train operators up to 12 weeks ahead of travel but, subject to availability, you can still get a last-minute bargain up to 18:00 on the day before you travel.
Advance tickets are only valid for the date and train they are booked for - they are non-refundable. They are single tickets so a return journey involves buying two separate tickets.
Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak - These tickets give you more flexibility than an Advance ticket offers. Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak work if you are not restricted to travelling early morning or to arriving at a particular time. However. you may need to travel at specific times of the day or days of the week, or on a certain rail route. The travel restrictions will depend on the journey you are making, but these will be outlined to you when you book.
Cheap Off-Peak tickets can be bought any time before travelling and must be used on the date shown on your ticket. For Off-Peak return tickets outward journeys must be made on the date shown on your ticket but you can make the return journey on any day within the calendar month of the outward journey.
Super Off-Peak tickets are available on some journeys, these will be indicated when you are buying your train tickets. They are only eligible on certain trains so you will need to make a note of the train times and keep them with you.
Anytime - have no restrictions on the time of day that you can travel for the date that you have booked. They also allow you to break your journey at any of the stations on route and resume it later in the day. With an Anytime return ticket you must travel within 5 days of the date on the ticket and make the return journey within one calendar month.
If travelling to London with children don't forget to add on your London Travelcard which allows unlimited travel on trains, the underground, Docklands Light Railway, Tramlink and buses in London Zones 1-6. Up to four children travel for free with one adult with a Travelcard. Children under 14 travel free on city buses at all times.
For £2 you can add a PLUSBUS ticket to the start or end of your rail journey which allows unlimited travel on buses and tram services (available at over 280 stations). Please note that some companies insist that your rail journey started from outside their area. To book just select the PLUSBUS option when booking your tickets.
Collecting your tickets
After 15 minutes of booking your tickets on-line you can collect them from the pre-booked ticket machine at any National Rail station - it does not have to be the one your travelling from. You will need the credit/debit card you used to pay for the tickets and the 8-digit collection reference number.
If you book at least 5 days before you travel your tickets can be delivered to your door by the Royal Mail First Class service for a fee of £1.50. If you book at least two days before you travel then your tickets can be delivered by Special Delivery for £7.50.
