This offer has expired. The amount of last minute summer holiday bookings has fallen dramatically. It seems as if everyone in the UK has really made the most of this gorgeous summer weather as less and less holiday bookings abroad have been booked this summer since the sun’s prolonged appearance here in the UK. Steve Endacott of On Holiday Group said, “Rather than delaying the booking decision, [the hot weather in the UK] may be simply removing customers from the market.” The 25% fall in holiday flight bookings has been compared to similar to the fall of flights during the Icelandic volcano eruption back in 2009. These low figures have come as even more as a surprise due to estimations that last minute summer 2013 holiday bookings should have risen after last year's busy summer with the Olympics and the Jubilee celebrations. Not only are UK holidays or ‘staycations’ becoming more popular because of the weather but also are considerably cheaper, and arguably just as much fun. The good weather is one thing, but hiked up prices of holidays abroad in the summer holidays is likely to contribute to the rising number of people choosing to stay at home. It is not surprising that people are choosing to stay here and explore new places. We have a bit of everything from city life to countryside living as well as coastal bays and towns to enjoy. With beautiful beaches that arguably rival those of the Mediterranean, (check out a selection of our best beaches) and seaside towns that add some traditional charm, we really have all the components to create a fantastic family holiday and lasting memories. From theme parks, music, arts and food festivals to our cities’ landmarks, if you decide to enjoy the weather here instead of abroad, there is undoubted plenty to see and do.
There is also the added convenience of shorter travelling times in the UK and not needing to deal with the unnecessary stress of airports, check ins and long transfers. It does seem like the lure of a cheaper, easier and now an equally as hot holiday at home is becoming more and more appealing to UK families.
Has the hot weather here changed your mind about a last minute break here in the UK? Or is it more of a financial decision for you?
